Mallow occurrence
Mallow is a species in the mallow family, a biennial or perennial herb that grows from 40 to 100 cm tall, and blooms from July to September with red-violet flowers that have dark veins in the petals. The stem is decumbent to ascending and has stellate hairs and straight hairs. The leaves are hairy, are shallowly lobed with the flowers sitting in the leaf folds. Mallow is a beautiful perennial garden plant.
What is mallow good for?
Mallow is an old medicinal and ornamental plant. Was valued not only as a vegetable but also as a versatile medicinal plant. It is the flowers and leaves that are used.
The plant contains a lot of slime substances (8-10%) consisting of D-galactose, D-galacturonic acid, etc. Most mucilaginous substances are found in the fresh leaves at the beginning of the flowering period. The herb is also rich in tannins and the glycoside malvidol.
It is said that mucilage substances that the plant contains have a local effect on the skin and they form a barrier that protects against irritation.
Ingredients: Mallow (Malva sylvestris) dried flowers
Dosage: Infusion - pour 2.5 dl of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of dried mallow flowers. Leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes and drink between meals 3 times a day.
