Hollyhock 'NIGRA' occurrence

Hollyhock 'NIGRA' belongs to the mallow plant family (Malvaceae) and originally comes from south-eastern China but was introduced in the 15th century in Europe, possibly first via the Aegean islands. The plant is impressive ornamental plant that can be found in many home gardens. Blooms in late summer and autumn with large black flowers on strong stems. Its black flowers are rare in the plant world and have their unusual color thanks to the high content of dyes. Interestingly, hollyhocks as an ornamental plant have varieties with different colors of flowers, but only dark blue and black have valuable properties.

Active associations in blacknight 'NIGRA'

As I have already mentioned, Hollyhock has its unusual color thanks to the high content of dyes - anthocyanin, which are mainly derivatives of malvidin and delphinidin. In addition, the herb is a fairly rich source of antioxidants, which also include, for example, berberine. Other substances found in the plant are phenolic acids and flavonoids: quercetin, kaempferol, myricetin), tannins, resins, as well as large amounts of polysaccharides, especially mucilage and pectins.

Hollyhock 'NIGRA' uses

In folk medicine, the herb was used mainly for women and women during menopause. It is the presence of phytoestrogens, i.e. plant compounds that "mimic" female estrogens with their activity, which allows the herb to be used by women. It is worth mentioning that red clover and kudzu root have similar properties. Hollyhock 'NIGRA' is also used in the food industry for, for example, the production of herbal teas (it is often added to teas because it gives aroma and an intense, dark colour).

The plant also finds its use in skin care, it provides a soothing, protective and moisturizing effect on the skin and when the herb is used internally, it strengthens small blood vessels and improves general circulation.

Hollyhock 'NIGRA' side effects

There are no reports of side effects associated with the use of Hollyhock, however, it is important to follow the recommended daily intake to avoid possible side effects.

Keep in mind that the use of this herb can delay or reduce the absorption of drugs taken at the same time, therefore it is recommended to do at least 2 hours apart.

Dosage:

Decoction: 1 tablespoon of flowers pour 1 cup of warm water and leave covered for 15-20 minutes, then boil for 2-3 minutes, leave for about 10-15 minutes. Strain. Drink in portions.
