Silverweed occurrence

The Silverweed is a small, low (10-30 cm high) and creeping rose plant, the leaves are lobed and silvery on the underside. The yellow flowers on long stalks, with five petals bloom all summer. The plant grows in meadows, pastures and roadsides. It is considered a weed that is widespread almost all over the world.

The interesting thing about Silverweed is that the large, yellow flowers open in the morning and close in the evening, and in bad weather they remain closed all day.

What is Silverweed good for?

The herb is used as a natural remedy, the plant parts used are the entire above-ground part in the flowering stage. The plant contains valuable substances such as: tannins, saponins, mucous membranes, flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol), sterols, choline, organic acids (gallic, catechuic and ellagic), minerals and vitamin C.

Thanks to its active substances, Silverweed has an antispasmodic and diuretic effect.

Externally, it can be used for rinsing and poultices on eczema and skin problems, as well as for gargling.

Silverweed - contraindications and side effects

Contraindications to the use of Silverweed are pregnancy and breastfeeding. The herb should also not be used for chronic diarrhea and ulcers in the colon. The plant should also not be given to children.

Silverweed used in appropriate amounts causes no side effects. Using the herb for too long can cause constipation.

Ingredients:Silverweed dried herb (Potentilla anserina)

Dosage: Infusion: 1 tablespoon is boiled in a cup of water which is allowed to stand for 10 minutes before being strained and drunk warm, morning and evening. Can be mixed with equal parts chamomile and yarrow.

It is also possible to make a milk drink with Silverweed: Boil 3 teaspoons of dried herb in 250 ml of cold milk and then strain. Feel free to add a little honey. The milk softens the tannins in the Silverweed.

Storage: Dry, cool and dark. Keep out of the reach of small children.
