In Sweden, the field horsetail is also called fox tail or fox butt. The plant is a perennial species that can grow up to four decimetres high and is a very common species that occurs throughout the country. It grows in all kinds of environments such as roadsides, lake shores, fields, waste land (ruderate land) and calving hills.

What is The field horsetail good for?

The plant has a number of different interesting properties, it is an old panacea and was widely used to give vitality, energy, resilience and thinking power to man.The plant is a valuable natural remedy with its rich content of silicon and other important active substances such as: potassium, flavonoids and saponins and vitamin C as well as organic acids (silicic acid, malic acid, ascorbic acid, oxalic acid).It is also suitable as a flavoring agent and spice in cooking and as a field frequenter.

Keep in mind that:

*The field horsetail has a slightly bitter taste with nutty notes, and can be mixed with other herbs to remove some of the bitterness.

*The herb must be boiled for at least 10 minutes for the silicon to be released.

*Long-term use of the plant can contribute to vitamin B1 deficiency. Therefore, when you take field horsetail regularly, you need to take a month break or use food supplements with vitamin B1.
