The herb Eyebright is an annual and semi-parasite found in a large number of species and subspecies that occur throughout the country. The plant is found in nature in grassy meadows and pastures. Unfortunately, the Eyebright is an endangered species that is protected. The herb is small, about 5–30 centimeters long. Its stem is covered with hairs. White or pink flowers have a yellow spot. Flowers between July and September.

The Latin name Euphrasia is from the ancient Greek word Euphrosyne, who was one of the three daughters of the Greek god, Zeus and means happy mind or well-being.

What is Eyebright good for?

Eyebright is a prized plant and the name reveals a lot about this herb and its valuable properties. Already in the 12th century,Eyebright was recommended by Saint Hildegard of Bingen. The herb has throughout the ages been used for various types of eye diseases. It cools and has a beneficial effect on the area around the eyes. Is also popular as an ingredient in various caring creams for the area around the eyes. Poultices made from Eyebright tea can be beneficial for tired eyes.

Eyebright contains many active substances: aucubin, tannins, flavonoids, phenolic acids (including caffeic acid), coumarin derivatives, essential oil, mineral salts, especially copper and manganese compounds.

Does Eyebright have any side effects

Available scientific research results and clinical observations do not indicate any negative effects or side effects associated with the use of the plant, both internally and externally.

However, it is emphasized that the amount of data is insufficient to clearly confirm its safety, as well as the recommended dosage and duration of treatment. People who are hypersensitive to the active substances in them may experience slight burning or swelling, which, however, disappear when you stop using infusions or compresses from the Eyebright and are generally not dangerous to health. There have been no studies or clinical trials investigating the safety of use in pregnant and lactating women, therefore use, especially internal, in these groups is not recommended without consulting a doctor.

Dosage

External use: 2 - 4 g of the herb 3 times a day; 2 - 4 g of the herb pour 1 cup of hot water, boil covered for 5 minutes, set aside to cool.

Use as a cover for the area around the eyes or on the eyelid.

Storage: Store in a dry and cool place, out of the reach of small children.
