Southern wormwood or Lad's love ( Artemisia abrotanum ) is an ancient medicinal plant, in ancient times the herb was believed to have magical properties and, like the closely related wormwood, it has sometimes been used as a brandy spice and its leaves have also been used to keep pests away from books and clothing. Southern wormwood occurrence
Southern wormwood is an old medicinal plant. In older literature, it is mentioned how the sting could be used against stings in the fingers as well as against vipers, moths and thinning hair. It was also believed that the herb had magical properties to scare away evil spirits. It is still used as incense in the Catholic Church. The plant thrives best in a sunny place with a light soil, unfortunately it rarely blooms in Sweden.
Crossed areas of use
You can say that Southern wormwood is a cultural plant, has traditionally had its own place among the fragrant herbs in the church bouquet. Sometimes used as brandy spice and the leaves can be used to keep pests away from clothes and books. The scent of yarrow changes between citrus, camphor and mandarin (some say similar to Coca-Cola) therefore it works as an excellent natural air freshener.
Southern wormwood- active substances
The plant contains many valuable active substances:essential oils, resins, organic acids, tannins, bitterness, coumarin, minerals, Vitamin C and beta carotene.
Contraindications
The plant should not be used by pregnant and lactating women, as well as people with diagnosed or suspected gallstones - in the latter case, it is better to consult a doctor in advance.
Ingredients: Lad's love dried herb (Artemisia abrotanum).
Dosage:
Infusion: 1 tablespoon of the plant pour 400 ml of warm water and leave covered for 10-15 minutes. Let cool, strain. Drink 2-3 times a day about half an hour before meals. Can be used externally to wash the body and gargle.
Tincture: 100g of broken herb add 500 ml of 70% alcohol and leave in a dark place for two weeks. Shake every few days. After two weeks, strain and pour into a dark glass dish. Drink 15-30 drops mixed with 50 ml of water half an hour before meals.
Storage: Store in a dry and cool place, out of the reach of small children.
