Water pepper occurrence

Water pepper is a versatile annual herb, 20-30 cm high. The stem is ascending. The leaves are lanceolate and widest below the middle. The plant is very widespread throughout the world. It is found in Europe, Asia, North Africa and Australia. The name bitter willow comes from its characteristic sharp and bitter taste, reminiscent of a combination of chili and pepper.

Active substances in Water pepper 

The herb is a source of many biologically active substances, e.g. flavonoids (including rutin, quercitin and kaempferol) and phenolic acids. Water pepper is also contains small amounts of plant sterols and minerals. These substances give the herb many interesting properties.

Water pepper uses

The part of Marshpepper knotweed used as raw material is its herb usually in crushed and dried form.

In ancient Chinese natural medicine, the plant was used, among other things, to reduce the likelihood of conception, as a natural contraceptive and to terminate pregnancy.

Currently, this plant is also used as a supplement to dishes, especially in Asian cuisine - the Japanese add it to e.g. for sashimi. It is also used as a natural preservative.

The herb's potential for its use is the subject of many clinical trials. So far, however, there are no clear recommendations regarding the safety and effectiveness of Marshpepper knotweed in specific clinical situations.

Marshpepper knotweed should not be used by women of childbearing age, during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It can cause ovulation disorders and in extreme cases even lead to infertility. It also has a potential abortifacient effect. It should also not be given to children.

Due to the high content of tannins, the plant can impair the absorption of vitamins, minerals and other substances from the digestive tract. This applies, for example, to calcium and iron. Therefore, it is recommended to leave a gap of several hours between preparations based on Marshpepper knotweed and dietary supplements containing vitamins and/or minerals.

Use of the herb (both internally and externally) should be discussed with your doctor each time. It is also assumed that the maximum treatment time is 7 days.

Ingredients: water pepper (Persicaria hydropiper) dried herb 100%

Dosage: 1 spoonful of herb pour a glass of water at room temperature and heat for 30 minutes, do not boil, then strain. Drink 2-3 times a day for ¼ cup decoction.

Storage: Store in a dry and cool place, out of the reach of small children.
