Woad occurrence
The plant is a species within the cruciferous plant family. It comes from southeastern Europe and Asia. In Sweden, this herb occurs rarely; along Sweden's Baltic Sea coast and on Öland and Gotland. Woad is two years old, approx. 50–100 cm tall smooth herb with leaves and stem in a blue-green color. Flowers with small yellow flowers in dense clusters between June and July, the leaves are mostly used as they contain the same blue dye as indigo.
The second part of the name comes from the Latin word tinctoria, meaning coloring (one who dyes).
What is woad good for?
Woad is a plant highly valued in traditional Chinese medicine. It is rich in alkaloids and flavonoids that have antibacterial and antiviral properties, and also contains ingredients that increase the production of lymphocytes. Woad therefore strengthens the body's natural defense mechanisms.
Interestingly, in the past, a blue dye called indigo was obtained from vetiver leaves and therefore it is used in plant dyeing.
Ingredients: Tinctura Isatidis
Woad (Isatis tinctoria), certified ethyl alcohol, vegetable glycerin, distilled water.
Use part of the plant: roots and leaves.
Ethanol content in the tincture: 50%.
Dosage: 1 portion of the pipette, up to 3 times per day. Dilute one serving in ½ cup water or juice.
1 scoop (pipette) corresponds to approx. 15 drops
30 drops correspond to approx. 1 ml
Contents of the daily portion (1.5 ml):
1.5 ml extract of vejde
This product contains a small amount of alcohol, less than 100 mg per serving.
Storage: store in a closed container at room temperature, out of the reach of small children. Protect from light and moisture. Sediment is a natural phenomenon.
