Eleutherococcus senticosus is a plant belonging to the Araliaceae family, originating from Southeast Asia. The plant currently occurs in eastern Siberia, China and Korea. The plant is a thorny shrub that grows to around 1m high. The leaves are broad green toothed. The herb has yellow or blue-purple inconspicuous flowers that grow in small clusters. Followed by small round dark berries. Thrives in well-drained soil without reservation in a sunny or semi-shady position.

What is Siberian ginseng good for?

Siberian ginseng is a dietary supplement that has long traditional uses and has been used for thousands of years in Asia. Eleutherococcus contains organic compounds called eleutherosides A-G and I-M. In addition, it contains organic acids, some aldehydes, vitamins (including beta-carotene, vitamin E), mineral salts and sugar compounds, including so-called eleutherans.

Eleutherosides are responsible for most of the valuable properties of Siberian ginseng. And there are many such qualities. First of all, Siberian ginseng has an adaptogenic effect - that is, it increases the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions. This is especially important in stressful conditions. Siberian ginseng extract supports the body in the fight against stress and adapts to all kinds of changes.

Contraindications and side effects

Unfortunately, Siberian ginseng slightly increases blood pressure. This is good news for people with low blood pressure, but bad news for people with high blood pressure. People suffering from advanced atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and certain heart diseases should also not use the herb.

Russian root is also not recommended for pregnant and nursing mothers. Due to its stimulation of brain function, ginseng should not be used for insomnia or nervous hyperactivity.
