St.John's wort is a perennial herb. It has yellow, black-spotted and striped petals. St. John's wort blooms from July to September. The plant occurs in the southern half of Sweden, all over Europe and in the northern parts of Africa. Even in temperate areas of Asia, St. John's wort can thrive. St. John's wort grows mainly in sunny open places and lean ground such as on rocky slopes, heather, on warm rock ledges, rock knolls, meadows and forest edges.
What does St. John's wort contain?
St. John's wort contains flavonoids (including biflavonoids), tannins (oligomeric procyanidins), acids, essential oils, phenol-carbonic, xanthones, fluoroglucine derivatives (including hyperforin) and about 0.1 percent naphthodianthrone derivatives (hypericin and similar red pigments) with photosensitizing properties. In addition to tannins and polyphenol derivatives such as hypericin and fagopyrin, St. John's wort contains the effective antibacterial hyperforin in relatively high concentration.
Ingredients: St. John's wort (dried)
Dosage: Allow 2 tablespoons of herbs to steep in 2 dl of hot water.
Storage: Store dry, tightly closed and out of the reach of small children.
