Verbascum grows wild in almost the entire country, but the plant can also be found in gardens. It is the flowers and leaves of primrose that are most often used as natural remedies. The flowers contain i.a. saponins, flavonoids, essential oils and glycosides. The herb can be drunk as a decoction or infusion, but can also be used as a cleansing facial toner.

Verbascum occurrence
The verbascum consists of around 360 species that grow wild in large parts of Asia and Europe. The herb grows wild in almost the entire country in meadows and in dry ditches but can also be found in gardens. The flowering occurs when the plant is two years old, all summer and a bit into autumn with fine flowers that attract pollinating insects.
What is mullein good for?
There are several varieties of mullein and it is flowers and leaves that are used for their interesting properties. The plant is a rich source of many valuable ingredients, including: flavonoids with anti-inflammatory properties, tannins with bactericidal properties, saponins (which have diuretic and anti-inflammatory properties), as well as mucilage substances that have a protective effect in e.g. whooping cough, and saponins affect the own production of mucus substances.
The infusion/decoction can also be used as a cleansing facial toner.
Verbascum - contraindications and side effects
A contraindication to the use of mullein - although these are rare - can be an allergy to the ingredients of the herb. It cannot be used by pregnant or lactating women. Special care should be taken when consuming by children under 12 years of age.
Ingredients: Verbascum dried flowers ( Verbascum Flos )
Dosage:
Infusion: put 1 tablespoon of flowers in a glass of boiling water and let it steep for 10 - 15 minutes under the lid. Strain and drink 3 times a day, preferably sweetened with honey.
Boil/decoction: Boil the dried flowers in the water covered for 5 min, remove from the plate and then let it steep for 5 min (mucilage substances and saponins are best dissolved by boiling).
The infusion/decoction can also be used as a cleansing facial toner.
