What is Gotu Kola?

Gotu kola (Centella asiatica L.) is an ancient herb used for centuries in Ayurveda. It is a low-growing herb native to South Asian tropical climates. It has been used in Asia for both culinary and traditional purposes. Both traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic cultures use gotu kola. From these routes, gotu kola found its way into the Western world and is today a valued herb.

Chemical compounds in Gotu Kola

Centella asiatica is a plant rich in chemical compounds belonging to the group of pentacyclic triterpene saponins (we can distinguish bramoside, asiaticoside, centelloside, tankuniside, scepoleoside and acids: asiatic, madecassic, centellic and bramic). Their exact composition and quantity depends on the plant's place of origin. In addition to these chemical compounds, gotu kola also contains vitamins (A, C, E, K), B vitamins, minerals (magnesium, manganese, selenium, zinc, calcium, sodium), essential oils, flavonoids, saponins, glycosides, serine and glutamic acid.

Substances found in the leaves, stem and root of gotu kola make it an adaptogenic plant. This means that its consumption helps to maintain the balance in the body.

Dosage: Infusion: 1-2 teaspoons of herb pour a glass of boiling water, brew covered for 20 minutes. Drink 1-2 times a day, in the morning and at noon.
