Barley grass is a type of grain that is considered a product from the superfood category due to its wealth of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Barley grass was one of the components of the diet of the ancient Romans. This product is a dietary supplement.
Barley grass is the immature shoots of the popular, well-known common barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), which is grown in many countries. Usually mature seeds are used, but the real wealth of nutrients, vitamins and minerals is found in the young shoots, and it is these immature parts of the grain that are most valuable. They contain a lot of chlorophyll but also vitamins: beta-carotene, folic acid, pantothenic acid, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6 and vitamin C. The immature parts of barley also contain dietary fiber and minerals such as potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, phosphorus, manganese and zinc.
How can barley grass be used?
Barley powder is a good addition to smoothies, drinks or salads. You can drink it for breakfast, add oatmeal or make a good vegetable cocktail. However, it should not be subjected to heat treatment, because when it is heated to a high temperature, it loses its properties.
Because of the specific taste, you can add something to improve the taste, such as a little honey or a few drops of lemon juice.
Can barley grass cause any side effects?
