Berberis occurrence

Barberry is a dense bush that was introduced to Europe as a medicinal plant and is found wild in large parts of Sweden. It blooms in late spring with pale yellow flowers and later forms red berries, which ripen in autumn (Aug-Oct). Fruit, bark, roots and leaves are used for herbal purposes.

What is berberis good for?

Dried barberry berries are a source of many valuable antioxidants: anthocyanins, carotenoids and vitamins. Sorrel has a sour, sharp, and slightly bitter taste that can be compared to the taste of lingonberries.

Berberris can be used in several different ways. In the kitchen, it is worth trying barberry berries for porridge, sweet desserts or cakes. They are also suitable as an ingredient for homemade jam and marmalade. It is also excellent to add the berries to salads, bulgur and quinoa. You can also eat the berries as a supplement or make a tea.

Barberry is suitable for vegans as well as GMO-free.
