According to legend, the Virgin Mary rested on a bed of Yellow bedstraw which has given the herb the nickname Lady's bedstraw. Mjölkysta is another name for Yellow bedstraw, which refers to the herb's ability to make milk curdle as if rennet had been added.

The herb is a perennial herb that can be found on dry grasslands in almost the entire country, except in the northernmost parts and in the mountain range.Yellow bedstraw blooms from July right into September. Fruit small, bald and black. Scent honey-like. Taste very peculiar, sour. The plant attracts lots of bees and bumblebees.

What is Lady's bedstraw good for?

The herb was already known in ancient times when dyes could be extracted from the Yellow bedstraw - a red one from the root and a yellow one from the flowers. It was only in the 19th century that it came to be honored again as a medicinal plant - then as a remedy for various convulsive conditions. Nowadays it is only used in folk medicine. Yellow bedstraw is used a lot in herbal teas for its good taste and it is also a popular herb in schnapps, when you want a sweet schnapps taste.
